Courtesy the Artists is a collaboration between Malik Gaines and Alexandro Segade, based in New York. Courtesy the Artists invites artists and others to interpret, react to, and enjoy historical texts that inform present creative conditions. Segade and Gaines are members of the group My Barbarian, which has performed and exhibited extensively. Their work is currently on view in the 2014 Whitney Biennial, where they performed an adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s agitprop play The Mother. Courtesy the Artists performances include Songs of the Civil War, Studio Museum in Harlem (June 2014), Choir Practice, Recess (December 2013), 24-Hour Ballad, Recess (November 2013), Night Music, Recess (October 2013), and The Meeting, MoMA P.S.1 (October 2012).
